1 Day Fire Risk Assessment in Care Homes (CPD) Course.
Accredited by the Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM) and The Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) for 6 Hours of Continual Professional Development.
This course is designed to provide Fire Risk Assessors with Continual Professional Development when undertaking Fire Risk Assessments in Care Homes.
1 Day Course
This 1 Day course is for those people involved with fire risk assessments in Care Homes, typically, you will be an experienced fire risk assessor who already undertakes fire risk assessments in Care Homes or wishes to move into this specialist area.
Who is this 1 Day course for:
Delegates will be expected to already understand the fundamental principles of fire risk assessment and this course is designed to enhance those existing skills through presentations and bespoke desk top exercises referencing the relevant guidance documents including the DLHC Fire Safety Risk Assessment in Residential Care Premises, Approved Document B, and the HM Additional Guidance Document.

Fire Compartmentation and the standards required for Care Homes (Integrity)
Fire Doors
Understanding and Calculating Travel Distances within Care Homes
Adequacy of the Means of Escape, Fire Exits and Final Exits
Classification of residents and defined in the relevant guidance documents
Fire Evacuation Strategies considering Staffing Levels.
Learning Outcomes:
Be able to specify the standards of compartmentation and fire resistance for Care Homes
Be able to specify Travel Distances within Care Homes referencing the relevant guidance documents
Be able to understand the use of external fire escapes relevant to Care Homes
Be able to specify and define evacuation strategies for Care Homes
Be able to consider and discuss issues relevant to evacuation of Care Home residents considering their impairments and staffing ratios.
Instruction methodology
The course uses a bespoke delegate workbook (the delegate keeps this for future reference), presentations and exercises which are interactively debriefed during the course.
The Trainer
Training is delivered by David; David is formally a Fire and Rescue Service Officer with 27 years’ experience, David was a warranted ‘Fire Safety Inspecting Officer’, Fire and Rescue Service Qualified Fire Investigation Officer. Since then David has delivered numerous Fire Risk Assessment training nationally and has a wide range of experience in delivering such training to all sectors especially to Health and Safety practitioners. David continues to undertake fire risk assessments of a wide range of premises types throughout the UK.
David Prince is a Nationally Accredited Fire Risk Assessors on the FRACS register (No 73) and is also listed on the IFSM Register of Fire Risk Assessors (No 151) and BAFE SP205-1 Life Safety Fire Risk Assessments Silver.
David Prince also has formal teaching qualifications (Dip Ed) as well as a wide range of ‘Fire and Rescue Service’ fire safety qualifications. As a fire safety practitioner David is aware of current Fire Safety practices.
Accreditation
We are an ‘Institute of Fire Safety Managers’ (IFSM) ‘Accredited Centre’. 2 ‘Certificate of Attendance’ are awarded to delegates attending the course, one is accredited by ‘The Institute of Fire Safety Managers’ (IFSM) and the second is awarded by the ‘Institute of Fire Engineers’ (IFE) both are for 6 hours of Continual Professional Development (CPD).
Course duration
1 Day 09.00 Hours to 17:00 Hours, with morning and afternoon breaks and 45 minutes for lunch which are included in the course fee.
Courses
There are 12 places, and they will be secured on a ‘first come first serve basis’ by booking on our web page or by booking directly with us.
For a course to proceed there needs to be a minimum of 5 delegates. A decision to run a course will be taken one week prior to the course start date.
You should have a minimum of English and Maths at Level 2 Functional Skills, this is an alternative qualification to GCSE.
