This course has been updated to include information and training regarding The Fire Safety Act 2021, The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 & The Building Safety Act 2022.

2 DAY COURSE

This course is for those people involved with fire safety and fire risk assessments of HMO’s and or Purpose-Built Blocks of Flats.

Delegates are provided with training and instruction in the relevant fire safety legislation and fire risk assessment guidance documents.

It is recommended that you should have some previous experience in Fire Risk Assessments and or related skills and or experience relating to fire safety in residential premises. This course is designed as Continual Professional Development in addition to existing skills or qualifications.

Course Contents

An Introduction to Fire Safety in ‘House in Multiple Occupation’ (HMO) and ‘Purpose Built Blocks of Flats’

Reference is made to the ‘Houses in Multiple Occupation and Residential Property Licencing Reform: Guidance for Local Housing Authorities’ which comes into force on the 1st October 2018. (This guidance is relative to the ‘The Licencing of Houses in Multiple Occupation (Mandatory Conditions of Licences) (England) Regulations 2018’ and the Housing Act 2004 and the Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Act 2018

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, delegates will*:

Understand how to assess the risk of fire in the built environment

Be able to reference the Fire Safety Law for England and Wales

Be able to reference appropriate guidance documents

Understand the behaviour of fire in the built environment including ignition sources of fire

Understand the effects of fire on people and human behaviour in fire situations

Understand means of escape

Understand fire prevention

Understand fire protection (Passive fire compartmentation and Active fire systems)

Understand the management of fire safety in the built environment.

*The course also considers how the delegate will manage their expectations regarding the fire risk assessment process.

Instruction Methodology

The course uses a delegate workbook (the delegate keeps this for future reference), presentations and exercises which are interactively debriefed during the course.

Throughout the course delegates will complete the workbook exercises relevant to each presentation; on the last day delegates will complete a ‘mock premises’ fire risk assessment exercise (desktop exercise) and undertake a ‘walk round fire safety risk assessment*’ of the training venue.

The course is non-assessable; however, delegates must complete the course and the course workbook to receive their certificate of attendance.

The Trainer

Training is delivered by David; David is formally a Fire and Rescue Service Officer with 27 years’ experience, David was a warranted ‘Fire Safety Inspecting Officer’, Fire and Rescue Service Qualified Fire Investigation Officer.

Since retiring David Prince has delivered Fire Risk Assessment training nationally and has a wide range of experience in delivering such training to all sectors especially to Health and Safety practitioners. David Prince continues to undertake fire risk assessments of a wide range of premises types throughout the UK. David Prince is one of only 73 Nationally Accredited Fire Risk Assessors on the FRACS register and is also listed on the IFSM Register of Fire Risk Assessors (No 151) and BAFE SP205 Life Safety. David Prince also has formal teaching qualifications (Dip Ed) as well as a wide range of ‘Fire and Rescue Service’ fire safety qualifications. As a fire safety practitioner David is aware of current Fire Safety practices.*For training purposes only.

Accreditation

We are an ‘Institute of Fire Safety Managers’ (IFSM) ‘Accredited Centre’.An Accredited ‘Certificate of Attendance’ is Awarded to each Delegate that Completes the Course. The Course is not assessable; however, delegates must complete the course and the course exercises to receive their certificate of attendance.

CPD

Continual Professional Development (CPD) is awarded: 12 Hours of Formal CPD.

You should have a minimum of English and Maths at Level 2 Functional Skills, this is an alternative qualification to GCSE.
